Deborah Szekely opened the first-ever destination spa noted for incomparable individual service and devotion to the balance of body, mind and spirit for women. In June of 1959, men-only weeks were added to the schedule, followed in 1973 by the addition of coed weeks. After founding Rancho La Puerta fitness resort in 1940 with her late husband Edmond Szekely in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico, Deborah envisioned a luxury, Zen-influenced spa serving a small number of guests (now 40 maximum). She realized her dream by independently opening Golden Door Spa and was quickly recognized as one of the nation's leading spa & fitness authorities. Although most of Deborah's energy is currently directed toward Rancho La Puerta, she still finds time to give a much anticipated evening lecture at the Golden Door once each week.
